Árstíðir emerged from the ashes of Eyjafjallajökull, the volcanic eruption that brought Iceland to the world’s attention. With two hits in their home country, the folk trio toured the world with distinctive vocal harmonies and layered, melodious string arrangements. In 2026, Árstíðir will release their tenth studio album Sólmyrkvi (solar eclipse), the most roots-focused album they’ve ever made. Ancient Icelandic songs, passed down from generation to generation, are brought into the present by Árstíðir, weaving them with contemporary sounds and songwriting techniques. Much like Icelandic culture itself, Árstíðir’s music moves between history and modernity. The trio’s songs lean on a thousand-year-old tradition, blending it with sounds of today. The distinctive Icelandic sound and fusion of folk tradition with modern songwriting resonates with fans of Scandinavian music, but also connects with those in the classical and even metal communities.
